To the surprise of everyone, including I would assume the expo organizers, PAX Prime has sold every single pass in under 48 hrs.
I personally was completely taken off guard. I was on the road for work, but I made an effort to check the PAX Prime website at least once a day for the past week on my smartphone.

Don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with Wasteland 2 and I think it’s awesome that they have been able to get as much money as they have.
I cancelled my pledge because I’m not a fan of RPGs, especially turn based RPGs, I can’t stand them. I pledged $15 back in March before it had hit the $900 000 goal. It seemed like the right thing to do after all of the excitement with Double Fine.
Clearly there is no longer a concern that they will hit their target (currently just shy of 2.5 million with 3 days to go). So, I figured I could cancel my pledge and not feel bad about it.
I wasn’t really sure that I could and I’m glad that they have the option. With the most important Kickstarter ever launching May 15th, I really need to save my money until then.

Last night I finally finished Batman Arkham City. Not the main story mind you, I finished that some time ago. No, I finally finished the damn Riddler side mission.
Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate a good value and I definitely got that here. I picked up Arkham City (PS3) for only $30 during a Best Buy sale only a week or two after release. Sadly, I only got around to playing it a couple of weeks ago.
As it was, I had found around 300 of the 440 total riddles by the time I finished the main story line. I could have left it at that, but decided for completeness sake I would finish all of the side missions, including the Riddler, which requires finding 400 riddles.
The other side missions didn’t take long to finish, but damn what a pain in the ass it was to find all of those damn Riddler trophies. I actually had to use a walkthrough and cheat for the last 8, I had just had enough by that time. Unfortunately, the reward for all of my hard work (grinding) was a short, easy to complete, not very Riddler “like” final mission. Disappointing to say the least.
Note that the game was great otherwise.

I almost crapped my pants when I read this….
and then watched this…..
Kickstarter announcement on YouTube
I’ve mentioned it before, but the Tex Murphy video games (well UAKM, PD and Overseer) are some of the greatest video games ever created. Don’t just take my word for it. Take a look at some of the YouTube reviews or read some of the comments following the Kickstarter announcement on any video game site. I’m not alone in my beliefs.
Anyway, it’s a little early to get too excited. The Kickstarter campaign doesn’t start until May 15th. In the mean time, the folks at Big Finish Games will be putting together the campaign details. They are also asking for suggestions for rewards and campaign ideas from fans. You can submit those ideas to their contact page at http://www.bigfinishgames.com/contact or on the Unofficial Tex Murphy web site.
Expect to hear a lot more about this once the campaign begins.

Well, I’m am almost completely out of General Mills Cineplex movie passes. I had a pretty good haul this year.
If my memory is correct, it looks I was watched 11 free movies in February and another 2 (2 for 1) in March. I wouldn’t mind a few more 2 or 1 passes, but I haven’t been able to locate any more boxes with passes on them. Pretty sad that they cleared out of stock and the promotion is supposed to continue until the end of May. Oh well, there’s always next year (hopefully).
As for the movies, the biggest surprises where the lesser known movies like The Grey, Chronicle and Goon. I actually really liked Chronicle. The disappointments were not surprisingly the big releases including Underworld: Awakening, Journey 2 and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (all sequels and all in 3D).

I’m starting to get pretty sick of 3D movies. Ya, it worked well with Avatar and the 3D experiences at Disney Land are pretty cool, but 3D in movies is starting to piss me off.
For example, yesterday I took the kids to see Journey 2: The Mysterious Island using my free movie passes. I had to pay an extra $9 in fees for the 3D “upgrade” and the in the end the 3D was a joke (not in a good way). I suppose it didn’t help that the movie was mostly forgettable, but it really highlighted how pointless 3D is, other than a dirty cash grab.
Really, there shouldn’t be an extra charge for 3D. If a studio wants to add 3D, it should be an extra something to bring people to your movie. At the moment, it’s mostly added as an afterthought to try and bring in more money.
When I go to see Ghost Rider 2 this week I will again have to pay an extra $3 and I can guarantee that the 3D will be completely unnecessary and a waste of $3.

Last night I decided to try to use one of my free movie codes to see what the new process is like.
I didn’t want to plan ahead or read up on what all would be involved. I simply cut out the code from one of my cereal boxes and headed out to the theatre.
Before getting to the theatre, I knew I would somehow have to redeem the code online, but that was it.
After getting there, I first tried the Cineplex Mobile app on my Android powered Sony Xperia Play. The Cineplex app already allows you to purchase tickets, so it seemed like the easiest solution.
In the app, I found the theatre and movie I wanted to watch. Entered the time and then entered the coupon code in the “promotion code” field located at the bottom of the page where you choose how many tickets you want.
Unfortunately, I received a message that although the code was valid, it had to be entered on the full non-mobile Cineplex web page. By this point, the movie had just started.

It seems like some douche bag decided to try and scam my credit card number and score some free crap off of the Internets.
It’s possible the scumbag who obtained my credit card number sat on the info for some time, so it will be impossible to determine how they got it or when. Luckily, my bank caught it before any transactions were approved. Actually, I’m extremely impressed that they were able to catch it. I shop online almost exclusively, so a bunch of random online purchases shouldn’t set off any red flags.
Either way, I have to give them proper respect for catching it. They have since cancelled that card and sent me a new one.

Well, today marks the first day of the General Mills Cineplex Odeon 2012 Free Movie Promotion.
They are doing things a little differently this year. Unlike the cut out movie coupons of yore, this year, each box of participating cereal includes a code for use with an online purchase of a ticket. The good news is that instead of a free popcorn or drink in March and May, you get Buy One Get One free coupons for each of March, April and May. As in the past, February is the free movie month.
You can check out the promotion page here….

A couple of things since I last posted about this. The other day I was at WalMart and I noticed a full pallet of Old El Paso boxes with the Cineplex free movie candy offer. So they should be out in full force everywhere very soon.
The other thing I discovered is that it looks like the movie passes will be handled differently this year.
In previous years, the pass was physically located on the prospective box of cereal and you simply cut it out and took it to the theatre. It seems that this year the cereal boxes will instead contain a redemption code that can be used to obtain a pass.
If you head on over to http://lifemadedelicious.ca/freemovieoffer you can see what I mean. This page mentions redeeming a code for a Cineplex movie ticket.
Apparently the page doesn’t fully open until February 1st.
What do you guys think?
