I’m happy to report that it appears that Cineplex will be teaming up with General Mills again for some free movie goodness in the coming year.
I can’t confirm what the movie offers will be (no information has been released yet), but I came across a box of Old El Paso Fajitas with the free move snack offer.
It is the same offer as last year, giving you your choice of candy (regular or large), nachos, small popcorn or small drink for free. The offer is in effect from Feb 1st through until the end of May for use Sunday through Thursday.
Since the snack offer is the same, it’s probably safe to assume the movie offer will be the same, but won’t know for sure until more details are released.

A lot has been said about the content differences between Netflix Canada and Netflix US since it launched in Canada last year. For the most part Netflix Canada has made significant improvements, but there may be times when you just want to watch something that is only available on the US site.
A Google search on the topic will likely bring up sites describing how to use a VPN server to redirect all of your traffic and make it appear as if you were somewhere else (in the continental US for example). The major issues with this method are that access to a good VPN server can get pretty expensive and you are limited to the bandwidth provided by the VPN server (both speed and/or amount of data). Being bandwidth limited is not really ideal for a video streaming service.

So, it turns out that only days after I posted details on how to trick the Android Netflix app to work in Canada, Netflix Canada goes and approves the app for use in Canada.
This means that you should now find the Netflix app in the Android marketplace assuming you are running Android 2.2 or higher. I tested the new version on my HTC HD2 running Android and it worked perfectly. 😀

So, it has been a little over a year since Netflix launched their streaming video service here in Canada. Initially the selection was pretty sparse. Since then, more and more content has been added ever month; both good and bad.
What’s the selection like a year after launching? Well lets take a look at some of the newer releases by category….
Action & Adventure:
Iron Man 2, Unstoppable, Knight & Day, The Last Airbender, The A-Team, Machete, Gamer and G.I.Joe
Comedies:
No Strings Attached, Jackass 3, Date Night, Megamind, Morning Glory, Dinner for Schmucks and Extract

I don’t know how long this promotion will be on, but right now if you head on over to Onlive.com and sign up, your first game purchase is only $1.
This is assuming you are new to Onlive or at least haven’t made any purchases yet.
I signed up for Onlive after getting back from PAX last month, but hadn’t made any purchases yet. Immediately after getting the e-mail from Onlive, I logged in and purchased Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
The only other games I would have been interested in are L.A. Noire and Batman: Arkham City, but neither game is available yet and pre-orders don’t count for this promotion. 🙁

I just received word that GoG.com is having a sale on the Broken Sword Trilogy. I suppose it’s not technically a trilogy since there was a 4th game released in 2006 and an announced 5th game is supposedly going to be released later this year or next.
The first two games are traditional 2D point and click adventures while the 3rd and 4th are 3D adventure games.
At $3 a piece it’s a pretty sweet deal if you like these kinds of games.

This past week I have been playing with Android 2.3 on a HTC HD2 from T-Mobile. It doesn’t support 3G with Roger Wireless (incompatible frequencies), but it’s still an amazing phone and WiFi still works fine.
One of the apps that I was excited to get is the Netflix streaming app. It’s been available for iPhone for some time, but it was only last month that Netflix released an app compatible with all 2.2 & 2.3 version Android devices.
To my surprise, I couldn’t find Netflix in the Marketplace. It turns out that Netflix Canada hasn’t approved the app yet, so if you are able to access it via the Marketplace (using a weblink for example), you will get an error that the app is not available for your region.
Luckily, it is still possible to get it working in Canada if you don’t mind a few extra steps.

Today I received my Final Notice for the Windows Mobile MyPhone service shutdown from Microsoft.
The service stopped working some time ago, but today is the last day that you can log in to the MyPhone web page. It’s a sad reminder of the amazing free service previously offered to Windows Mobile users.
