While driving to Seattle the night before, my wife was kind enough to text me to let me know that I forgot my Digital Camera.
“FRAK!!”
I don’t have a fancy DSLR or anything, but my trusty Canon Powershot SD1000 can sometimes take some pretty good pics.
Without a decent camera, I would have to rely on my 5 Mpixel LG GW825 camera phone. It has a LED flash, but overall it sucks as a camera, as it is with most smart phones.
So, come Friday morning with my 3 day PAX badge around my neck and camera phone in hand, I arrived at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center at around 9 AM.

Because I didn’t plan ahead, I had to get a hotel far, far away from the Washington State Convention Center, the location of PAX Prime 2010. Techinically, there were still rooms available in walking distance to the convention center, but the least expensive was around $190/night and I’m way too cheap to pay that much. This meant that I would have to drive to Seattle so that I would have a vehicle to get me from my Hotel to the expo and back.
The drive down from Vancouver is not too bad. The border wait was only 30 minutes going south and once I was on the other side I stopped at an AT&T store and picked up a pre-paid SIM card so that I would have data and cellular use while in Seattle at a reasonable rate.

Probably one the coolest aspects of PAX is scoring SWAG, and there was SWAG-A-Plenty a this years PAX.
Over the 3 days I was able to score 23 t-shirts (2 doubles) and one hoodie.
My prize possession of the lot is definitely the Sega Hoodie (shown here). This bad boy was given out as a parting gift at the Sega after party (PAX day 2 – Gameworks). Notice the 4 images on the front? Those are images of the controllers from the 4 main console systems that Sega once produced (Sega Master System, Genesis, Saturn & Dreamcast). My inner Sega fan-boy was very grateful.
I’ve posted pictures of all the t-shirts I was able to score after the jump….

PAX Prime is now less than 2 days away.
A short while ago I received my passes for Friday and Sunday. It was at that time I set out to find a Saturday pass.
I initially checked out Craigslist Seattle, but that was a zoo. Some guys were trying to sell their Saturday passes for over $100. Luckily, the PAX forum started a thread for good folks wanting to sell unneeded passes and only at face value (no scalping).

I guess it doesn’t matter if your gadget is mediocre, has lots of problems and many haters, just slap an Apple logo on it and it will sell like hot cakes.
Here in Canada, the iPhone 4 is a very rare commodity indeed. Over the last few weeks, my wife has been trying to get one, to no avail. Rogers Wireless store employees claim that they have waiting lists of 30 people or more and that they only get 2 or 3 a week.

Well I have to say I am pretty embarrassed. When I started this site, I had set a goal for myself that I would try and post at least twice a day.
Obviously, I have posted a lot less than that. I mean, where the heck did August go?
Technically, I was only home 8 of the 31 days in August, but that’s no excuse in our always-connected-wireless-world.
Regardless, September is now here. The kids are heading back to school and vacation season is almost over. That’s right, almost over. Can you say PAX!!!

As I mentioned a short while ago, I was planning on getting passes for PAX 2010 in Seattle this year. At the time I thought they were just sold out of three day passes. Unfortunately, they were sold out of Saturday passes as well.
Before leaving for our cruise, I purchased passes for Friday and Sunday. Now I just need to figure out how I am going to get a pass for Saturday.
You would think that they would only pre-sell a certain amount of passes and leave some for people willing to line up the morning of the show. Guess not.
There was a 3 day pass up on eBay the other day, but at the time it was already at $175 for what was originally only $55. Nasty.
Perhaps this time I will learn not to procrastinate in the future. Maybe it is time I change my lazy ways. Look out world………Ahhh who am I kidding.

My wife and I returned from our Alaskan cruise Sunday night. It was great in many ways except for the exorbitant cost of Internet Access. They charged by the minute (what is this 1998?), so obviously by my lack of posts, I wasn’t willing to give in to their tyranny.
They offered limited WiFi access if you had your own equipment and computers if you didn’t. Most of the time there were kids using the computers and almost always they were on Facebook.
I guess some people are willing to pay $1 per minute to learn that Jim likes pizza and Amber is bored.
Not me.

Yesterday I posted about Goozex and how excellent the service can be. Note that I write “can” be. Goozex and online game trading is far from perfect. New games still need to be purchased in order for the used market to exist and thrive. Obviously, used copies will never exist if no one is buying them new. Also, as you can image, demand is extremely high for used copies of newly released games.
Back in January, when Mass Effect 2 was released, there were 3 ways I could have obtained a copy (legally). I could buy it new on release date from any big box store. I could have waited in line for a used copy on Goozex, potentially waiting a month or more with only a slight savings. Or I could have purchased a downloadable copy from Steam.

Before I get into a glut of promoting different companies, I should state that Goozex is more of a community then a company.
I happened across Goozex by chance from a link someone posted on AdventureGamers.com (another cool site by the way).
Normally, if you are trying to track down an old video game (be it PC or console), you must resort to long searches on eBay, Craigslist or Kijiji to find it and then often the price is greatly inflated. Goozex provides an outlet that lets you avoid all of that nonsense.
At the risk of sounding like an infomercial, I just want to write that Goozex is actually a really cool concept.
