PAX 2010 – Day 1 – inFAMOUS 2 Panel

I didn’t end up sitting in on any panels during the day on Friday so I made an effort to catch one of the evening panels once the expo floor was closed.

Sucker Punch was scheduled to host a panel at 7 PM regarding inFAMOUS 2 called “inFAMOUS 2: An Inside Glimpse into Creating the Superpowered Franchise”.  I really enjoyed the first inFAMOUS and the inFAMOUS 2 demo on the show floor was very cool, so I was all over it.

There was already a huge line waiting to get in when I got there at 6:30, but it was not a problem as the theatre was only two thirds full by the time the panel started.

The panel was really fun with lots of clips of the original inFAMOUS at various stages in development.  What I found most surprising was how Cole, the story and his powers evolved.  I always just assumed that it was conceived as an origin story with his powers planned from the get go.  Instead, Sucker Punch simply started out with the idea of making a super hero game without any specific ideas on the story or what his power(s) would be.

They ended up settling on his parkour abilities early in development, but it was not until much later that they settled on electricity based superpowers.

Anyway, thanks to the wonders of the Internet, now you too can see what all took place with the below embedded video (thanks to G4)  🙂

In addition to hosting an excellent panel, Sony & Sucker Punch also treated all who attended with a free inFAMOUS 2 t-shirt.  Although, technically, it was the same t-shirt that they were giving out at the booth (in exchange for playing the inFAMOUS 2 demo) it’s the thought that counts right?
