The Beauty of DNS Re-direction / Unblocking

Want to watch Veronica Mars in Canada for free, just like our US neighbours?

Well tough luck!!!

That is unless you pay for US VPN access or use DNS re-direction/unblocking.

I’m not going to discuss using a VPN.  They are generally expensive and slow.

I am going to discuss using DNS re-direction though, because that’s what I have been using to watch Veronica Mars for the past week.

Hey Netflix Canada, Where’s Stargate Atlantis?

Many moons ago I mentioned that I was interested in watching some recent TV show additions to Netflix Canada.  In particular Farscape and Stargate SG-1.  Both shows that I missed the first time that they aired.

Well, shortly after that post I started watching Farscape.  It was great, loved it.

Then I started watching Stargate SG-1.  Another great show, loved it.

In the case of Farscape, it was cancelled in the final season without notice, so it ends on a cliffhanger.  Luckily, a 2 part mini-series was released to wrap everything up.  Unfortunately, it’s not available for streaming on Netflix, so I had to download it illegally.  🙁

Lost on Netflix Canada

Apparently, my family and I are some of the few people who haven’t already watched the TV series “Lost”.  Everytime it comes up and I mention to friends that I have never watched it, I always get disbelief and then “well, you have to watch it!”.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always wanted to watch it, I just never got around to it.

Well, imagine my surprise when I logged in to Netflix a little while ago and was greeted with a nice big picture of “Lost” and the words “recommended for you”.  According to What’s New on Netflix Canada, it went live on April 15th.

We are already on Episode 6 and kids can’t seem to get enough.  Who would have thought a TV show about a bunch of strangers stuck on island in the midle of nowhere would bring a family together.

Holy Crap, Iron Man 2 is on Netflix Canada!!

Lately I have noticed that Netflix has been pretty good about adding new, quality content to their Canadian site.  Especially when it comes to TV series.  This past month the following TV series’ have been added…..

Prison Break: The Complete Series

Roswell: The Complete Series

Firefly: The Complete Series

Angel: The Complete Series

Arrested Development: The Complete Series

Dollhouse: The Complete Series

All that is left to add is Buffy The Vampire Slayer and they will have the entire Joss Whedon collection.

Anyway, today I was shocked to see that Iron Man 2 was added.  This has to be a pretty major milestone.  Iron Man 2 was the third highest grossing film (domestically) last year.  This is by far the newest feature film by Paramount Home Entertainment released on Netflix Canada so far.  Hopefully this means we will see some more recent blockbuster films added in the near future.

Netflix Canada – Selection After 2 Months

Netflix has been available in Canada now for a little over 2 months.  Initial reaction to the service was overall positive but with one significant negative – limited selection.

Since the launch, Netflix has been able to slowly add new content on a semi-daily basis.

In addition to new content, Netflix also launched native applications for Wii and Xbox 360.

So after two months, what is the selection like?

Netflix Canada – Wii Application Review

As I mentioned a few days ago, Netflix recently released a native application for the Wii.  This means that you no longer require a disc in order to access the Netflix service.

The Wii may not be the best way to access Netflix, but it will probably suffice for many.

Netflix Canada Review – The Wii Experience

Surprisingly, it took 10 days (including weekends) for my Netflix Wii application disc to arrive.

Netflix sent the disc in a bright red envelope that clearly displayed what was contained within.

With little fanfare, I ripped her open to see what was inside.

MonoPrice HDX-401TA HDMI Switch Review

Not too long ago, I mentioned purchasing a 4×1 HDMI switch from MonoPrice and that I would eventually do a review.

It took a little longer than I anticipated, but after using it for a few weeks, I decided it was time to post my experiences.
